Jean & Geraint Jones GOLDEN WEDDING September 24th 1960 - 2010 ![]() Jean
and Geraint with the Rev Eric Laburn Knight after their wedding at
Bulwell Baptist Church in Nottingham on September 24th 1960

Jean
and Geraint met in Jean's home city of Nottingham where Geraint was
serving with the RAF during his National Service. After his "demob"
they stayed in close touch with daily letters and regular visits.
Geraint was a civil servant and applied for a transfer from Coventry to
Nottingham. Those familiar with Civil Service practices in the 1950s
will not be surprised that the reaction was to post him from 60 miles
west of Nottingham to Boston 60 miles to the east! They married in Bulwell Baptist Chapel where Jean was a member and started their married life in Boston, where they bought their first home, before moving eighteen months later to Skegness, where Geraint had been promoted as Clerk in Charge of the local County Court. There they remained for eight years, which saw the birth of their three sons, David.Gareth, and Alun. A further promotion saw Geraint appointed to a post at Headquarters in Westminster and a move to life in suburban Kent. There they stayed for nearly twenty years, before Geraint secured his dream job with responsibility for the Crown and County Courts in South Wales. He retired in 1995 and was awarded the OBE in the same year. (Jean claiming entitlement to half the award) Following retirement he was appointed as a consultant to the Chief Justice of Cayman Islands, was also appointed as Registrar of an obscure tax tribunal and chaired interview panels for Judicial Appointments to a wide variety of Tribunals. For the past nine years they have lived in Abergavenny, before moving to Cardiff, much closer to their middle son Gareth, his wife Sarah and their two lively children aged four and two. Their new home in Redwood Court is much more compact than their previous homes, but, so far as Jean is concerned without any perceptible easing in the domestic workload. They both welcome the convenience of their new home to local amenities and public transport and greatly appreciate the welcome they have received from the Minister and congregation at Llanishen Methodist Church. |
