| space A suprise dinner-party was arranged by the church at the New House Country Hotel to help celebrate the 100th Bithday of David Jones, a regular member of our Sunday morning congregation. Fifty three members and friends were there to complete a day which had included a message from the Queen and a visit from the Lord Mayor of Cardiff. A message of congratulations also from the Secretary of State for Wales, Peter Hain, sent in the final hours before his resignation from the Cabinet. David is a native of Rhuabon near Wrexham, who started work at 14 for local industralist Henry Dyke Davies in his brick-works office. In his younger days he enjoyed football and was offered a trial by Oswestry FC. He spent the war years as Secretary of the East Denbighshire Home Guard and came to Cardiff to be Secretary of the Wales Gas Consultative Council. He, and his late wife Mair, became church members at Llanishen in 1958. |
