ABOVE - The waistcoat made of redundant ties that symbolised God's invitation to Denis to pursue a new approach to people. In responding to the call to the ministry, Denis cast aside his civil service power-dressing and an emblionic waistcoat was the result.
Rev Denis and Robin Hawkey (from the St James Uniting Church, Wattle Park, Melbourne) spent a month in north Cardiff during April and May 2006 and, in exchange, Philip and his family went to work in the fellowship at St James. Australia's Uniting Church brings together the Congregational, Presbyterian and Methodist traditions and was inaugurated as a church in 1977.
