As the Sabbath rapdily approached, the crucified Jesus was taken down from the cross and placed in a nearby tomb prepared for Joseph of Aramathea and never yet used. (Luke 22, 50-56) Joseph, himself, rolled a large stone across the entrance to the tomb, watched by Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jesus. (Mark 15, 46-47). Pilate set a guard. (Matt.23,62-66) On the day after the Sabbath, the women went to the tomb with spices but found the tomb open and the discarded  linen wrappings lying there. (John 20, 1-10, Matthew 28, 1-9). Jesus first appeared to Mary in the Garden (Jn.20,11-18).
